RCVS Accreditation
In July 2011, the practice successfully underwent an inspection under the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Practice Standards Scheme.
Both sites were subject to a rigorous inspection by an RCVS appointed Veterinary Surgeon. This Surgeon looked at all aspects of the operation of the practice, including:
- staff qualifications and ongoing education – to remain a registered veterinary surgeon or nurse, you must complete a required amount of continuing professional development each year.
- clinical governance – this includes performing monthly clinical audits, to continuously assess any areas needing improvements or changes.
- standards of care – for this they look not only at equipment, but kennels and provisions available, also at our monitoring and hospital charts.
- in-patient & out-patient facilities – so this is the provision of our services to either visiting patients or ones staying in the hospital.
- diagnostic equipment – as well as checking we have suitable equipment, they have to check all our records to ensure the machinery is maintained and serviced correctly.
- pharmacy procedures – ensuring drug rotation, correct use of drugs and antibiotic awareness.
- all aspects of health and safety – they check all our policies and protocols, all of which have to be updated regularly.
We passed with flying colours and have General Practice accreditations in Small Animal, Equine and Large Animals. Our most recent inspection was in April 2019 and we have maintained our accreditation. The inspector was impressed by our cleaning protocols and records, as well as our standard operating procedures, which mean we provide an exemplary level of patient and client care.
